Rotary Club of Awka GRA. District 9142 partners with Esomchi Foundation to provide immediate relief materials and specialized nutritious foods to flood victims in Anambra State, Nigeria.
This year’s floods in Anambra State is adding death to its pain apart from homes being submerged and people being displaced. The boat, carrying more than 80 people, capsized in the southeastern state of Anambra on Friday, 7th Oct, 2022 as people desperately tried to escape floods that had risen as high as rooftops. Recent flooding in the area had displaced up to 600,000 people, according to the country’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
It is against this background that the Rotary Club of Awka GRA. District 9142 partnered with Esomchi Foundation to deliver relief materials and specialized nutritious foods to flood victims in one of the IDP Camps at Unity Primary School, Umuoba Anam, Otuocha, Anambra East LGA, Anambra State, Nigeria on Thursday, 13th October, 2022.
Our deliveries include:
- Cooked food – Jollof rice
- Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) Bread
- OFSP Pap – (for nursing mothers)
- Bathing soaps
- Bags of pure water
- A sack full of neatly used clothes
Receiving the relief materials and specialized nutritious foods on behalf of the internally displaced persons, the camp coordinator expressed his gratitude to both the Rotary Club of Awka GRA District 9142 and Esomchi Foundation for coming to assuage the sufferings of the flood victims.
We also took time to have on-the-spot assessment of the devastating impact of the floods. Further discussion with Rtr Fidel Okafor, a former president of Rotary Club GRA District 9142 and 2-time Local Government Chairman reveals that Anambra West LGA is totally submerged, populace displaced, economic activities paralyzed and other humanitarian challenges associated with natural disasters.
